Jolene Jacquart, PhD

My name is Jolene Jacquart (pronounced “jay-kart” and I use she/her pronouns). I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a private practice based in Tucson, AZ specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and related concerns. I’m also an Assistant Clinical Professor and the Director of the Behavioral Health Clinic at the University of Arizona, where I train clinical psychology graduate students and conduct clinical research.

Eduction & Research interests

I attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison where I received my B.S. double majoring in Psychology and Biology-Neuroscience. While at UW-Madison, I worked as a research assistant in Dr. Richard Davidson’s Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience & The Center for Investigating Healthy Minds. After graduating, I worked as a clinical research coordinator at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind-Body Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital for several funded clinical trials examining mind-body practices.

I went on to complete a masters and doctorate degree in clinical psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. My dissertation, supervised by Dr. Jasper Smits, examined the mental health benefits of exercise. I completed my predoctoral internship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Adult Psychiatry under the supervision of Dr. Sonia Matwin.

My broad research interests are understanding the mechanisms, dosing, and adherence of treatment and augmentation strategies for anxiety and depressive disorders. I am also passionate about improving clinical training and treatment dissemination.

Clinical Guide to Exposure Therapies: Beyond Phobias

Edited by Jasper Smits, Jolene Jacquart, Jonathan S. Abramowitz, Joanna Arch, and Jurgen Margraf. (2022)

Clinical Guide to Exposure Therapy provides evidence-based guidance on how to incorporate and tailor exposure therapy for patients who present with problems beyond fear and its disorders. Exposure therapy is a relatively easy-to-implement intervention with powerful effects. Helping clinicians expand their reach and effectiveness, this clinician’s guide includes chapters on (1) considerations for deviating from standard exposure protocols when patients present with comorbid psychiatric or medical conditions and (2) how to use exposure therapy in the treatment of conditions that do not center on fear or anxiety (e.g., eating disorders, obesity, depression, substance use disorders, chronic pain). Complementing existing resources for clinicians on exposure therapy for the treatment of anxiety disorders, this volume provides guidance on issues related to the planning and implementation of exposure interventions more broadly. This clinical guide an essential resource for the advanced trainee and clinician providing exposure therapy for complex comorbidities and unique populations.
